Of course, you are right when claiming that there’s a certain naivety embedded in the message of this story. I don’t mind though. I guess I’m a short-term optimist and a long-term pessimist. So yes, I agree, in the long (or not so long) term it does not look good at all. But that shouldn’t withhold us from doing our best every day and discarding all possible alternatives (even if considered utopian). And yes, once again, this is a privileged position to be in.

Anyways that reminds me of this Milton Friedman quote: “Only a crisis produces real change. When that crisis occurs, the actions that are taken depend on the ideas that are lying around. That, I believe, is our basic function: to develop alternatives to existing policies, to keep them alive and available until the politically impossible becomes the politically inevitable.”
